Course Description
This innovative programme is run in conjunction with the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, and offers graduates from a range of clinical backgrounds a first postgraduate step in developing and combining research skills applied to clinical practice. Assessment methods are designed to help you integrate theory and practice; maximise critical thinking skills; and advance your clinical research skills.
Content
The programme provides a robust clinical research career training opportunity for those who aspire to clinical academic careers and leadership roles in healthcare practice, research and education. It will provide, in a research-led environment, the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills relevant to carrying out clinical research.
The core modules are as follows:
- Research skills in health and social care 1 (20 credits)
- Research skills in health and social care 2 (20 credits)
- Clinical research in practice (20 credits)
- Applied research methods: quantitative (20 credits)
- Applied research methods: qualitative (20 credits)
- Open module (with placement within a research group) (20 credits)
- Research dissertation (60 credits)
Entry requirements
- Upper second-class honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject from an approved higher education institution
- Current relevant job contract in a clinical and/or research area
- Min. 2 years’ relevant clinical experience (if you do not meet these criteria, you will be considered for admission if you can provide evidence of appropriate qualifications, e.g. diploma in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, nursing, or speech and language therapy
- If you do not have an honours degree, you will be expected to demonstrate evidence of continued professional and educational development)
