Course description
The Manchester Radiology Training Scheme (MRTS) is designed specifically for medically-qualified trainees who wish to pursue a career as a radiologist.
The first three years of training leading to the Final Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) examination are a part-time university-based course at The University of Manchester. During these three years there are six-monthly clinical rotations to any of the centres that collaborate in the training programme.
Specialist registrars (SpRs) in their fourth and fifth-year of radiology training, or beyond, have periods of between 6 and 12 months within the major teaching departments or the district general hospitals. Rotations are arranged on a six-monthly basis to allow sub-specialty training.
Course aims
- To provide the highest possible standards of specialist training in radiology and its sub-specialty areas, and so to prepare SpRs for the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Radiology and a consultant appointment.
- To fulfil the criteria for SpR training identified in the publication of the Royal College of Radiologists, 'Structured Training in Clinical Radiology' and sub-specialty documents. Progress is monitored by the Specialty Training Committee (STC) of the North Western Deanery.
- To identify, encourage and support all SpRs in Radiology, including those with special needs or aptitude, to undertake remedial or sub-specialty training and/or research as appropriate to their clinical skills and professional aspirations.
Entry requirements
