Course overview

The Fd/Sc is a vocational qualification with a strong emphasis on study skills and work-based learning, designed around the needs of a broad and non-traditional student group. Over 150 students have now graduated and progressed to new roles in the workforce or higher education programmes.

During year one you can choose between studying at the partner colleges (South Downs College and Totton College) or at the University, where all students study for their second year. Students join the common learning programme with other health and social care students from the Universities of Southampton and Portsmouth for inter-professional learning projects during year two.

Career opportunities for Associate Practitioners are opening up in many areas of practice, such as Rehabilitation and Children and Families’ Services. This new role crosses traditional professional boundaries, providing you with variety and scope for all types of development in the future. The Foundation degree is often cited as an essential qualification and their work based learning strand prepares you ideally for graduate employability.
