The History curriculum focuses on Modern History, Western and non-Western, beginning with the period around 1500 when global developments began to break open. It is broadly based in studies of media and communications, modern sciences and technologies and modern institutions and their operation.
The modules are:
- World Regions and Civilisations
- State and Politics
- Economy and Society
- Culture and Science
Each of these modules combines several courses offering insights into the historical formation of our contemporary world in its various dimensions. Classes taught include, for example, International Relations in the 20th Century, North American History, History of Science, Modern Economic History since the Industrial Revolution.
The courses offer insights into the formation of our contemporary world in its many dimensions. They teach methods of historical research and also critically employ theories from other disciplines such as cultural studies, sociology, political science and economics.
