Programme outline

The Master's programme in International Relations (IR) leads to an MSc in Political Science. The programme explores the political, economic and social dynamics of global and regional integration as well as of disintegration, from both a historical and transnational perspective. It seeks to promote a critical understanding of contemporary developments by exposing students to different theoretical perspectives and empirical methodologies.

The Master's programme in International Relations is designed for:

  • those who require a basis for a PhD programme in international relations;
  • those who are considering a career that requires independent research;
  • or those who wish to work for an international policy-making organisation.

Entry requirements

Bachelor's degree: The MSc Programme in International Relations seeks students with an academic bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in international relations or in another closely related discipline, such as political science and history.

Grade average: Study results obtained in previous education should demonstrate that a student is able to attain and maintain a good to excellent level, especially in the field of international relations. Undergraduate studies should be completed with an overall grade average of at least a B/3.0 (American system), second class, lower division Honours degree (British system), C (ECTS system), 7.0 (Dutch system) or equivalent.
