European Studies is an exciting, innovative bachelor’s degree aimed at training you to become a specialist in European matters.
You will acquire the key skills and competencies needed to start working as a professional in multicultural organisations the world over . Focusing on Europe and its relationship with the wider world, the programme provides you with advanced skills in intercultural communication, proficiency in at least 2 foreign languages and general management skills.
The programme will introduce you to Europe and the many dimensions which it comprises. You will learn through lectures, seminars, workshops and discussion groups. You will also get the chance to sample Europe by meeting fellow students from all over the world, completing a six month exchange period at one of our many partner universities and finally working in an international environment during a four month work placement either in the Netherlands or abroad.
The English language version of the programme runs for three years (there’s also a four-year programme, which is part-English, part-Dutch.) Each year is split into two semesters, and each semester is split into two terms.
The programme is divided into courses and other activities, like projects, reports and group assignments. For each part of the programme that you complete, you’ll be marked on a scale of 1(the lowest mark) to 10 (the highest mark). If your mark is 6 or higher, you get credits.
If you have a Dutch diploma
You’ll need a vwo diploma, for which so-called profile requirements apply.
If you have a non-Dutch diploma
They’ll need to assess your secondary school certificate, before they decide on your eligibility. To make sure your certificate is judged fairly, they work together with NUFFIC, an organisation specialised in comparing international qualifications.
However, if you are in possession of an International Baccalaureate, French Baccalaureate, German Abitur or GCE-A levels (at least 3 at Grade C or higher), you are eligible.
English language skills
The minimum overall band score for the IELTS test (academic version) for all English Bachelor programmes is a 6.0. Besides the minimum overall score of 6.0 European Studies and International Communication Management require minimum band scores for:
For the TOEFL test a minimum score of 550 (paper based version), 213 (computer based version) or 80 (internet based version) is required. An IELTS or TOEFL test is valid for two years. The test must be valid at the start of the academic year.
