The EMCL is a full-time interdisciplinary and transnational university programme at Master’s level providing integrated training in theoretical and experimental neurosciences and psycholinguistics with clinical issues. The aim of the Master’s programme is to train highly qualified advanced students who are excellently prepared for research work and PhD programmes in the field of clinical linguistics. After finishing the programme, students have fundamental knowledge of theoretical linguistics and neurolinguistics.
The programme is highly relevant for students who wish to pursue a career in speech and language therapy, clinical linguistics or scientific research. Speech and Language therapists who follow this programme will be better equipped to assess and treat persons with a language impairment because of the additional knowledge they acquire about the theoretical background of the disorders they are dealing with. Students with a background in linguistics or psychology will become acquainted with the clinical situation, and thus will be able to develop better assessment and treatment materials. EMCL is an excellent preparation for a PhD in neurolinguistics. The programme is not meant to train students to become speech or language therapists.
The requirement for admission is at least a Bachelor’s degree (BA, BSc or equivalent) with an emphasis on speech and language pathology, linguistics, biomedical sciences, psychology or special education (with the emphasis on language impairments).
Students will need to be fluent in English. The requirement is a minimum TOEFL score of 92-93 (internet-based), 580 (paperbased) or 237 (computer-based), or an overall IELTS score of 6.5.
