The course of study focuses on the following theoretical and practical subjects in five major areas:
In these areas, students acquire theoretical knowledge, learn to develop and apply empirical research methods in the field, and acquire experiences in teaching, course planning and development of learning material (traditional and web-based).
Because of the international orientation of the Master's degree in German as a Foreign Language, particular emphasis is placed on intercultural exchange and experience. The curriculum therefore includes a reflected foreign language experience and a period of career-oriented practical training.
The programme is concluded with a Master's thesis and a final oral examination.
The Master of Arts degree in 'German as a Foreign Language' entitles its holder to work professionaly in the field German as a Foreign Language. Graduates are able to apply and reflect upon modern teaching methods; to develop courses and materials for the classroom or for intercultural training programmes; to describe and investigate second/foreign language learning processes.
