The two-year English-taught Joint Master's degree "English and American Studies for the Alps Adriatic Region" is aimed at highly motivated students with a background in English and American Studies (BA or equivalent) and a strong record of academic success. It offers specialised academic training focusing on the three core topics of literature, linguistics, and cultural studies. The universities in the consortium ( Bamberg, Graz, Pécs, and Venice) work together to guarantee a high quality international curriculum with regional aspects.
Among the applicants, 50 students per year will be selected to start the programme at the home university of their choice including a compulsory semester abroad (30 ECTS credits) at any of the partners within the consortium. While the entire programme is English-taught, courses in the national languages of the partner universities form a strong incentive for students to learn at least one other European language in the course of their studies.
Participants in the programme will receive a specialised academic training in the field of Anglophone studies. In the course of their studies, students will also gain theoretical and practical skills in the English language and be given the opportunity to study other languages (i.e. the national languages of the universities they have chosen as their home and/or mobility universities). In addition, various subject-related and vocationally-orientated courses will be offered, thereby giving students a wide range of employment opportunities upon completion of their studies. Despite the very different qualification profiles, many professional fields require a sophisticated understanding of and competence in languages as well as highly developed cultural and academic skills. Additional important components throughout the study programme, particularly in the context of the summer school, are intercultural competence and soft skills.
