Course overview

This programme focuses on the social and political aspects of language and language use. You will follow the common core course introduction to Linguistic Studies and to Social and Political Studies in first year, and will specialise in Years 2 and 4 in the study of sociolinguistics, both language-specific and general. In order to reinforce the socio-political aspects of such units, students will also be encouraged to choose certain general and language-specific units in Social and Political Studies. You will study two language throughout your degree and will spend your Third Year abroad. In recent years there has been a consistently high demand for units in both Linguistic Studies and Social and Political Studies within the School.
