Course overview

The BA in Language Learning focuses on the study of languages and how they are learnt. You will study two languages, as well as a range of courses in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics.

In your first year, you will be allocated to one of seven language stages according to your proficiency, and in all years of study you will benefit from the expertise and wide range of teaching and learning resources (including extensive electronic and televisual facilities) offered by the Centre for Language Study in the context of the HEFCE National Subject Centre for Language, Linguistics and Area Studies, which is hosted by the School of Modern Languages.

In Linguistics, you will gain a broad understanding of how different languages are structured and used (sounds, words, sentences, discourse, language and the mind), and you will study in detail how languages are acquired and taught.

Educational Aims of Programme

  • To provide you with distinctive, stimulating and coherent pattern of learning
