This programme integrates the content and research training of an MA with a doctoral length (80,000 word) thesis. It last for four years, covers all aspects of theoretical linguistics and the history, structure and variety of the English language, and is aimed at those who wish to make their career in English language at secondary or tertiary level. Typical course units include: Phonetics and Phonology; Linguistic Field Methods and Psycholinguistics. Progression to the PhD programme is depdendant on satisfactory performance on the MA element of the programme.
Academic entry qualification overview: Normally an Upper Second class honours degree, or the overseas equivalent, in linguistics (including phonetics).
English language: Students whose first language is not English require an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with 7.0 in the writing component or TOEFL 600 paper-based test, 250 computer-based test, or 100 internet-based test.
