Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies MA (Pathway of MA European Languages & Cultures)
Course description
Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, which received the highest rating of 6*A in the 2001 Research assessment Exercise, offers a wide range of postgraduate teaching and supervision at MA and PhD level.
The MA Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies pathway is a modular programme, with a free choice of MA course units from those offered within Spanish and Portuguese. This pathway comprises the prescribed core course units in Research Methods (30 credits), a dissertation (60 credits) and three or more optional course units (to a total of 90 credits).

The MA comprises:
- Research Methods I and II (30 credits)
- Optional course units (90 credits)
- a dissertation (60 credits)
Students following the SPLAS pathway must take at least 30 credits of crossdisciplinary course units, normally Critical Concepts I and Critical Concepts II.

Entry requirements
Academic entry qualification overview: The normal requirement for admission to the MA is an Upper Second class Honours degree, or higher, or its overseas equivalent, in a relevant subject, usually the language(s) to be studied.
English language: Students whose first language is not English require an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with 7.0 in the writing component or TOEFL 600 (paper-based test), 250 (computer-based test) or 100 (internet-based test).
