Course Description
This is a distinctive type of Single Honours Spanish / Latin American studies degree. You will study units on the languages, societies and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world, emphasising their shared history and experiences and contrasting their differences. Besides the European context, you will have the opportunity to study the Spanish-speaking communities of Central and South America, the Caribbean and the US. By taking advantage of the seven stage language programme offered in the school you will be able to enter at any point, from ab initio upwards. By emphasising the international breadth of the Spanish-speaking world we will engage with perceptions of globalisation and multinational communities.
Educational Aims of Programme
- To develop your understanding of and proficiency in the Spanish language, and of how language is an essential tool for exploring other disciplines.
- To develop your understanding of the various regions, cultures and societies in which Spanish is spoken.
- To enable you to develop analytical, research and personal skills relevant to a range of careers and professions, including those for which foreign languages are a key requirement.
Entry requirements
- A levels: ABB including grade B in Spanish
- IB: 30 points including 15 at Higher Level with 6 in Higher Level Spanish
