Course overview
This intensive, but exciting two year programme is for students who already have a good first degree in a subject other than law, and who are keen to become a legal professional.
To become a barrister or a solicitor requires both academic and professional skills. By taking this accelerated programme, students gain a thorough grounding in core legal subjects and research skills to satisfy the academic requirement.
This core programme is suitable for all undergraduates from the UK and overseas. The content of the programme is currently under review.
Accreditation
- Students must complete seven compulsory courses to satisfy the professional requirements of the Bar Council and Law Society in the UK
- Students, who intend to practice in a jurisdiction outside the UK, please check with the relevant governing legal bodies in your own jurisdiction, to ensure that a 2 year LLB programme satisfies their criteria. This is not currently the case, for example, in Singapore, where a minimum study period of 3 years is mandated
Programme Structure
In year one, you will study the first five compulsory units (Legal method, Constitutional law, Criminal law, Contract law, Property I), together with mooting and team-building programmes.
In year two, there are three more compulsory units (Property II, Tort law, Law of the European Union), plus one unit of your choice. Mooting, negotiation and careers programmes are available.
Year three includes one compulsory unit (Legal research and writing), which comprises a 10,000-word dissertation on a topic which you will choose, and three further selected units.
