About the programme

The LLM programme in Law and Economics is designed to give you an in-depth knowledge of two very complex subjects, as well as the understanding and expertise you need to see how these two subjects inter-relate. Over the course of a year, you study six compulsory courses, receive training in how to debate and report on issues relating to the law and economy, and look at the legal and economic theories behind competition law, market supervision, market regulation and corporate governance.

Admission requirments

The LLM programme in Law and Economics is open to:

• Graduates in Law or law and economics or students who expect to graduate no later than a month before the start of the programme.
• Students with a liberal arts Bachelor’s degree with a good basic knowledge of law.

English proficiency requirements:

All other applicants, including applicants who hold a Dutch HBO diploma (diploma of higher professional education), must provide proof of proficiency in English. To do so, you are required to take one of the following English language tests:

• IELTS, Academic Module. Minimum score: 6.5 overall band, at least 6 for writing. IELTS is the test preferred by Utrecht University.
• TOEFL, Internet based. Minimum score: 93. Institutional scores are not accepted. The TOEFL institution code for Utrecht University is 9062.
• Cambridge Certificates
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English at least a B grade.
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English at least a C grade.
