Introduction

When successfully completing the Legal Practice Course you will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice. As the Legal Practice Course has been credit rated by most institutions, you will be able to use that qualification towards obtaining a higher qualification such as this Masters degree.

Course Content

The course is based upon the LPC standards published by the Law Society and focuses on the Legal Practice Course subject areas. The course seeks to provide a postgraduate foundation for research into areas or topics of legal practice, to enable you to research areas or topics of legal practice, and to develop and extend your knowledge and critical appreciation of an aspect of legal practice.

You will be able to analyse and critically assess current knowledge and custom in legal practice. By the end of the course you will be able to plan, produce, write up and talk about a research dissertation focusing on a topic founded upon the legal practice course subjects.

Entry Requirements

  • You must have passed the LPC. As a Postgraduate Diploma, this is valued as 120 credits.
  • If you have passed the Law Society Finals or Bar Vocational Course and can demonstrate evidence of recent practice together with Continuing Professional Development you may be considered for admission.
  • If you follow Pathway 1 you will be expected to demonstrate in your application that you have given some consideration to your intended dissertation.
  • If you follow Pathway 2 you should demonstrate your interest in a particular LLM course.
  • You will need fluent written and spoken English to study at postgraduate level. If your first language is not English, an attainment of at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent must be demonstrated.
