Educational requirements: Completed their legal studies at master level with sufficient knowledge of PIL or equivalent degree or sufficient professional experience in the field

Professional experience required: Recommended.

Language requirements: TOEFL (minimum score: 600/250); IELTS (minimum score: 7)

Other requirements: Admission is limited to a selected number of students who fulfil the requirements to pursue studies at the highest standard (see www.leiden.edu).

Objectives: The advanced study in Public International Law has been designed to provide a framework for intensive, high-level study offering students the opportunity to acquire an advanced knowledge of this branch of law, while at the same time allowing them sufficient freedom to specialize in one of the two areas. The two areas offered are International Criminal Law and Peace, Justice and Development.

Subjects: Public intl. law capita selecta; intl. institutional law; intl. protection of human rights; intl. dispute settlement; principles & practices of legal scholarship; intl. criminal law; intl. criminal court; integration vs. fragmentation in intl. law; intl. humanitarian law; crimes; ICTY procedure & practice; intl. eco law & sustainable devt; intl. relations; intl. criminal law; UN peacekeeping.

Modes of instruction: Lectures, seminars, research papers, presentations, thesis.
