Course details

The approach to literature is characterised by a commitment to the study of texts in contexts and by an attention to the debates and theories that all contemporary students of literature must engage with.

The course is distinctive both in its focus on the differing roles the written word plays across cultures and in the opportunity it gives students to develop their own creative work as an integral part of the programme.

Career and progression opportunities

Students of English have taken up a wide range of career opportunities and have gone on to work in the media, publishing and journalism; a number of students have moved into postgraduate literary studies and teacher-training.
