Educational requirements: BA degree in Literature or a related field.

Objectives: To be able to independently gather literature and primary sources, to evaluate their quality, to formulate clear and well-argued research questions and to report on the results both orally and in writing. To be able to plan and carry out a research project under expert supervision, making use of appropriate theories and methods.

Subjects: The MPhil offers a flexible programme, with considerable room for literature courses within the students’ ‘home disciplines’ (for example, French or Chinese literature). Some of the MPhil courses are offered jointly by the MPhil’s in Literature and Art History.

Modes of instruction: Lectures, seminars, research projects, master's thesis.
