MA American Literature - Critical Reading: University of Sussex

About the programme

Designed for those with a critical interest in, or informed curiosity about, modern American literature, this programme explores key topics in primarily 20th-century fiction and poetry.

Beginning with questioning how contemporary literary theory might inform all our readings, you will go on to investigate subjects such as modernism and its legacy in Anglo-American writing, the relation between economic structures and narrative form, literary and filmic representations of nationhood, or the relationship between culture, language and politics during the Great Depression.

A literature-based first- or upper second-class undergraduate honours degree

English language requirements

IELTS 6.5, with not less than 6.5 in Writing and 6.0 in the other sections. Internet TOEFL with 90 overall including 24 in Speaking and 25 in Writing. For more information, refer to English language requirements .
