The MA in Modern and Contemporary Literature, Culture and Thought at Sussex is a diverse programme, which offers courses on a range of topics that analyse the production and reception of modern literature. The programme includes courses which reflect on the experience of the city, on photography, on modernism and postmodernism, on psychoanalysis, on the experience of war, on globalisation, and on many other issues, as part of an attempt to understand how literature has shaped and been shaped by modern and contemporary culture.
In recent years this MA has offered courses in: Anglo-American Modernism: Poetry and Poetics, Contemporary Writing, 1 Freud Fictions of Capital: Case Studies in American Narrative, Modernist and Postmodernist Fiction in Britain, Photography and Fiction in the c20th, Modern European Theatre. Critical Issues in Queer Theory Power and Religion: Nietzsche, Foucault, Kafka.
UK entrance requirements
A first- or upper second-class undergraduate honours degree in a relevant subject.
Overseas entrance requirements
Sussex receives applications from all over the world and is therefore very experienced in assessing the qualifications offered by students from outside the UK.

English language requirements
