Commercial managers typically work on the contracting side of the industry, assessing the value of work to be done and managing and monitoring costs as the project progresses. Their role is vital to the success of a project and may involve calculating stage payments, making sure the project runs smoothly, and maintaining accurate profit and loss calculations. Commercial managers need excellent business sense and a good understanding of management and construction processes.
The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building. Teaching and assessment The wide variety of teaching and learning methods include lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, laboratory sessions, individual and group projects, and guided reading. Assessment is designed to monitor your progress throughout the course and a variety of assessment methods are used including portfolios, written work such as essays and reports, in-class tests and examinations.
The main employers of commercial management graduates are contracting organisations, but the highly developed business skills of the experienced commercial manager ensure that many opportunities exist for suitably qualified people both in the UK and overseas.
