The programme is structured into the following parts:
- the basic subjects (economy, project management, international cooperation and information sciences)
- project work
- the elective subjects and finally the Master's thesis.
Each student has to select one of the four electives
- Integrated Water Management in the Tropics and Subtropics
- Land Use Systems in the Tropics and Subtropics
- Sustainable Planning and Building in the Tropics and Subtropics
- Renewable Energy in the Tropics and Subtropics
The Master's course provides engineers, architects and natural scientists with additional subject-related know-how dealing with appropriate technologies in the tropics and the subtropics, as well as fundamental skills in resource management. The students set their focus (elective module) within the timetable as best fits their goals.
The aim of the Master's course is to impart knowledge concerning complex economic and technological aspects in consideration of ecological circumstances. In addition to the technical knowledge, the students also get introduced into the principles of economics as well as being trained in the application of technologies and management strategies. The students will be aquainted with and will learn how to use decision instruments which contribute to a sustainable ecological and economic development.
