Students of the HSBA dual course of study Shipping & Ship Finance have two places of learning: the university and their own company. By changing their places of learning, the students can apply their theoretically gained knowledge directly in their companies from the sector of shipping and ship financing, such as shipping lines, classification companies, brokers, insurers, banks or issuing houses. Upon graduation, students are already proven young executives with above-average career opportunities in their companies.

In the area General Management, which accounts for two thirds of the study, the student acquires basic knowledge in business administration as well as in complementary skills such as leading discussions or presentation techniques.

The specialist courses in Shipping and Ship Finance teach basic knowledge in the field of shipping. On the basis of these courses, students are introduced to all aspects of the management of a ship. Specialist subjects here include Liner Services and Tramp Trade as ways of operating a ship. In the field of Ship Finance, basic ways of financing ships are taught. The students also learn about the risks of ship finance and how to evaluate them. Practically-oriented examples and case studies build the basis for the seminars. A comprehensive case study - from the building of the ship to its withdrawal from service - completes the picture for the students.
