Introduction

The expansion of new media technologies combined with the relationship between customers and organisations provide unique areas of study within marketing communications. This course has been developed with professionals from the marketing industry, including marketing agencies, major companies with marketing departments and the marketing professional bodies. It will provide you with the knowledge, skills and capabilities necessary to pursue a career within the highly competitive marketing communications environment.

Course content and Structure

The expansion of new media technologies combined with the inter relationship between customers and organisations provides unique areas of study within marketing communications. Modules such as consumer behaviour, branding and advertising have been designed to develop your understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects in all areas of marketing communications.

In addition to subject knowledge, it is vital that you develop good transferable skills which are required within the marketing communications industry. You will learn how to work effectively in teams, solve problems, develop critical thinking and of course present your ideas persuasively. These skills will be developed throughout the course and form part of your personal development plan (PDP).

Sandwich placement year

The course offers the opportunity to undertake a one-year placement between Year 2 and Year 3  which they strongly recommend. The benefits are that you develop your employability skills by working in the ’real world’ of marketing communications and appreciate the difference between theory and practice, helping you to develop a competitive edge in the job market.

Teaching and Assessment

A range of teaching and learning methods are used to develop your creativity, inquisitiveness and decision making. There is an emphasis on self-directed learning and personal development. Employers want graduates who have well-developed communication skills and can plan and organise their work effectively. The learning outcomes of the modules have been designed to meet these needs. Key graduate attributes and capabilities have been identified and incorporated within the core modules. You will also be able to collect evidence from other areas of your life such as part-time work, Students´ Union activities and voluntary work to demonstrate your personal development.
