The Textile Technology (Business Management) programme aims to develop individuals with the necessary technical and business expertise required by the global high-tec, textile and clothing industry.
There are exciting opportunities in both the high performance technical textiles sector and the traditional apparel market for their graduates with their combination of technical and commercial management skills.
Taught through an integrated series of lectures, seminars, laboratory classes and projects, the first year covers the fundamentals of fibre, yarn and fabric manufacture, the nature of materials, mathematics, physics, chemistry and computation.
The second year builds on the technology taught in the first year with course units in colour, production technology, and electronics while course units in management areas such as accounting, law and work psychology are introduced.
In the final year a research project allows the study of a topic in some depth and enables you to further develop your analytical and personal skills.
Recent projects have included the ethical management of textile production and innovative management techniques. A further range of technology and management subjects is also studied.
The programme prepares students for a variety of careers with many graduates entering technical management positions in the manufacturing sectors of the textile and clothing industry. Companies that have recently employed their graduates include such global companies as Ciba Geigy, Coats Viyella, DERA and Marks and Spencer.
