Course description

The masters programme in Textile Technology enables you to develop a high level of understanding of modern textile technology, preparing you for a career in the textile or related industry as a manager or researcher, or for an academic career.

The complete masters (MSc) course in Textile Technology enables you to develop a high level of understanding of modern textile technology, preparing you for a career in the textile or related industry as a manager or researcher, or for an academic career.

Graduates of this programme are expected to understand the whole process of converting fibre materials to the end product and to be able to identify and analyse the appropriate material and production route for a specific end product. You will also have developed the expertise and skill to conduct quality evaluation of textile products.

You can choose to study for a postgraduate qualification ( MSc, PG Diploma, PG Certificate ) or you can choose individual units as part of your Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Additionally, you can choose to build up the individual units to lead to a postgraduate qualification.

You can complete the programme in the following formats:

Career opportunities

Graduates of this programme typically become managers or researchers in industry or become academics in universities. Many past graduates have become owner-mangers of their own textile companies.

Entry requirements

Academic entry qualification overview:

  • MSc qualification:
    • You will need at least a UK 2.2 Honours degree in a Science, Engineering or Technology field, or equivalent International degree.
  • Professional experience / qualifications:
    • If you do not meet the minimum requirements and / or have a mix of other postgraduate or professional qualifications and relevant work experience, then your application will be considered for the progressive entry route, which means that you will be registered for the Certificate or Diploma level and you will be assessed at the end of each level before you progress to the next stage.
  • Diploma and Certificate qualification:
    • For the Diploma and Certificate qualifications they will consider your application on an individual basis. You can apply with a mix of UK Honours degree or equivalent international qualification, professional qualifications and postgraduate work experience.

English language:

If English is not your first language, you will need to take and meet minimum requirements for the following recognised English language qualifications:  IELTS (6.5 with no sub-test under 5.5); TOEFL (570 with 5.0 in TWE); CBTOEFL (230 with 5.0 in TWE).  Please contact us if you have an alternative qualification and we will make an individual assessment.
