The joint honours programme allows you to combine on an equal basis two subjects from a wide range, giving you a sound perspective on both subjects, with a good choice of option modules.
During the first year you are given a thorough grounding in basic mathematical techniques in calculus and linear algebra as well as having the opportunity to develop IT skills through the use of software designed to analyse and solve mathematical problems. The more advanced modules in Years Two and Three build upon these foundation skills as well as introducing other areas such as Discrete Mathematics and Non-Linear Mathematics. In the final year you are able to specialise in two areas through option choices. These include Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Modelling of Financial Derivatives, Fluid Dynamics and Symmetry.
The Mathematical Project module provides an opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to undertake mathematical research through a supervised individual project. If you intend to pursue a career as a Mathematics Teacher, the Mathematics Education Project is an excellent choice.
