Course Description

This four year degree programme is specifically designed for students who wish to be professional mathematicians in industry or academia. It will enable you to study mathematics in considerable depth.

The first three years of the course are similar to the BSc Mathematics programme, but in the fourth year you will have a much more prominent part in the direction of your studies and it will involve studying challenging Masters level mathematics. You will undertake an individually supervised project on a topic, which you can choose, and several of the lecture courses involve directed self-study and reading involving such topics as hyperbolic geometry, differential geometry, asymptotics and continuum mechanics.

The final year as a whole will equip you with many of the skills you need in a career as a professional mathematician.

Entry requirements

• A level: AAA, including mathematics, or AAB, including further mathematics
• IB: 36 points, 17 at higher level, including 6 in mathematics
• Intake: 150
• Average applicants per place: 7–8
