A four year course leading to a Master of Engineering, enabling you to gain the in-depth knowledge of the core subjects required to become a chartered engineer.
During the first year you will study Mechanics of solids, Thermodynamics, Properties of materials, Mechanics, Fluid mechanics, Electrical systems, Modelling and computing, Mathematics, Engineering design, Law and Management.
In year two you will cover Materials, Mathematics for mechanical engineers, Electro-mechanical machines, Linear engineering systems (vibration), Linear engineering systems (control), Electronics for mechanical systems, Engineering computation, Fluid mechanics, Engineering design, Thermodynamics, Management and Mechanics of solids and machines. At the end of year two you have the opportunity to select specialist themes or to follow an interdisciplinary programme. There is also the opportunity to spend a semester in continental Europe (being taught in English).
In the third year you will undertake an individual project, ranging from design studies to open-ended experimental or theoretical research. This project will arise from a real need and may be sponsored by industry.
During the fourth year, you will undertake two major group projects, working together with students from different disciplines on a design problem and on a study of social or environmental importance.
