Course Description

The development of medical devices is one of the fastest growing engineering sectors. This programme introduces you to the challenges faced in the design, development and testing of such devices.

The first two years of this degree are common with the MEng Mechanical Engineering, followed by specialisation in years three and four through a range of subject themes.

Core modules include Orthopaedic biomechanics, Fluid mechanics, Numerical techniques in mechanics, Manufacturing with materials, Materials service performance, Human factors in engineering, Engineering design, Biological flows, Computer aided analysis, Biomaterials, Computer methods in orthopaedic bioengineering, Advanced signal sensing and processing, and Management.

In the third and fourth years you will participate in projects, as described in the MEng Mechanical Engineering

Entry requirements

• A levels: AAA, including mathematics and physics (general studies not accepted), plus GCSE English language grade C (minimum)
• IB: 34 points, including a total of 12 in mathematics and physics at higher level
• Intake: 60
• Average applicants per place: 8
