This wide-ranging course embraces students with diverse and varying skills,interests and aspirations in design and graphic information. As a student you will be invited to take part and make your personal interpretation and contribution to the ideas and themes explored within the course programme.
The course encourages creativity,individuality, personal growth and understanding through the study of the fundamental principles of design and communication.
Project Work
Project work is designed to provide you with challenging, diverse and industry focused tasks. They reflect the broad range of student interests and engagement with the contemporary world, social, political, economic, environmental. Projects enable you to build and develop skills, widen your understanding, and support you in becoming an informed and creative thinker and designer.
Year One (credit Level 4)
During the first year of the course you are introduced to a range of conceptual and theoretical discussions and debates about design and the communication of information.
Year Two (credit Level 5)
The project work at this level encourages you to engage in the integration and presentation of ideas and information using a variety of media. The theory components support you in developing an understanding of the social and political contexts for design and its place within visual culture. Increasingly the project work will reflect your own concerns, personal interests and aspirations within design, allied to the application of these to the needs of end-users.
Year Three credit Level 6)
At this level you will be able to consolidate your knowledge and skills, and have the opportunity to explore in greater depth the higher challenges of synthesis and innovation. The major project enables you to focus on individual interests within the area of information design, in relation to the needs of an identified media audience.
The course programme is organized and delivered by a large teaching team of practicing designers and graphic artists whose specialisms cover a range of activities including interactive design, typology, animation, photography, graphic design, information design. Visiting lecturers also provide current specialist knowledge of the design industries and professional working practices in the creative industries.
