Course description

This three-year programme aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge to meet the healthcare needs of a range of clients with mental health needs, and problems and their carers. It also provide opportunities for personal and professional development.

A two-year branch only programme is also offered for applicants who have successfully completed their Foundation Year in Nursing at another University with 120 level 1 cats points or have completed the Foundation Degree (FDA) Health and Social Care. The course is divided equally between theory and practical experience, which is obtained through placements in a wide variety of clinical areas throughout Manchester.

Graduates from nursing programmes within the School have taken up a wide variety of positions in nursing in the UK and overseas. Career prospects are excellent, with significant opportunities for further professional development and specialisation. There are numerous employment opportunities available within local Trusts, or elsewhere in the UK for newly qualified staff.

Entry requirements

  • English language: GCSE English Grade C or above, or recognised equivalent.
  • A level: Two AS-levels at grade C or above, or the equivalent, are desirable.
  • Unit grade information: The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications.
  • GCSE: Five GCSEs at grade C (or above). These must include English and Mathematics; Science is also desirable (all must be at grade C or above). Key Skills Level 2/3 Literacy and Numeracy are accepted in place of Mathematics/English requirements but applicants must still have five GCSEs at grade C (or above) or their equivalent.
  • Key Skills qualification: The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification.
