Course description

The Foundation Year is the Year 0 component of the undergraduate MPharm degree designed to provide an excellent opportunity for students to adapt to the higher education system, and prepares students for entry to the University of Manchester Pharmacy degree.

Students will be accepted from a wide range of educational backgrounds and each application will be considered individually.

Following successful completion of the Foundation Year, students have a guaranteed place on the first year of the MPharm undergraduate degree programme.

Career opportunities

Upon successful completion of the MPharm degree, graduates are recognized by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain as entitled to register as a pharmacist after completing one year of pre-registration (professional) training.

Pharmacists are the profession legally responsible for the supply of medicines. The School's Pharmacy course has a broad inter-disciplinary scientific and clinical base and is flexible enough to meet differing career aspirations, whether in community (high street, local and rural) pharmacies, GPs surgeries, hospitals, industry, government or universities.

Entry requirements

  • English language: IELTS 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in any component. Students will have to complete Communication Skills.
  • A level: DDD - BCC (Contextual students) ABB - AAB (Conversion students)
  • Unit grade information: The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications.
  • GCSE: English and Biology or Mathematics at grade B.
  • Key Skills qualification: The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification.
  • International Baccalaureate: 34 points.
