There has been a long tradition of philosophy in the University, with the Moral Sciences Tripos (renamed `philosophy' in 1970) being taught since 1852. Cambridge has been the philosophical home of Russell, Moore and Wittgenstein and others, and made a significant contribution to the philosophy of the twentieth century. Today it is still one of the most notable centres for philosophical research in Britain with a lively graduate community.
