The range of specialised modules in this coherent, flexible programme reflects the broad spectrum of research interests represented by the philosophers. You can follow an established pathway in Aesthetics or Nineteenth-Century German Philosophy, or choose a pick-and-mix approach. The programme meets AHRC requirements to progress to MPhil/PhD research.
Core modules (seminar-based): Classic texts in philosophy (CT) 1 and 2: critical study of classic philosophical texts (CT1 texts deal with topics in mind, epistemology and metaphysics; CT2 texts are related to topics in ethics and value)
Introduction to library facilities and a range of relevant philosophical skills, including philosophical writing and oral presentation
Specialised modules: Art and emotion; Artificial intelligence; Frege; Heidegger; Kierkegaard; Medieval philosophy; Nietzsche; Philosophy and biography; Philosophy of language; Philosophy of music; Philosophy of religion; Schopenhauer; Schopenhauer and Nietzsche on art; The nature of art; The nature of reasons; The theory of action; Topics in contemporary aesthetics; Topics in moral and political philosophy; Topics in the history of aesthetics; Wittgenstein
