The Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology is designed to provide a doctoral level education and professional qualification.
The course provides the British Psychological Society (BPS) Stage 2 training in Health Psychology, and eligibility for Practitioner Health Psychology status. The accreditation team from the BPS commended the team delivering the Professional Doctorate Health Psychology on the research profile of the staff, the approachability/cohesiveness of the staff group, the cohesiveness of the trainee group, the contribution of the trainees to the ongoing development of the course, and the trainee satisfaction with the course.
During each year, you will attend UWE for a number of professional doctoral schools (PDSs), each is normally a full day, approximately fortnightly during academic semester time. Throughout the year, you maintain monthly contact with your supervisor. Each year ends with a review day.
The PDSs are organised around five areas of professional development: research (including systematic reviewing and an independent supervised project), teaching and training, consultancy, professional skills and a fifth area which consists of two from a possible five further developments of the main areas. This structure coincides with the requirements of the Stage 2 qualification for Practitioner Health Psychologist status.
