Course details

This course provides an opportunity to build on the training provided by our postgraduate diploma courses and is intended for students seeking to make psychotherapeutic work their primary activity. Clinical ability is enhanced through a deepening and critical understanding of methods and models of counselling and psychotherapy, and through a critical understanding of counselling and psychotherapy research.

Career and progression opportunities

The course provides the opportunity for students to strengthen their employability and work towards registration as a psychotherapeutic counsellor (subject to successful accreditation of the programme) Graduates will be equipped to engage in a professional climate which increasingly places an emphasis on evidence-based practice.

Entry requirements

  • For non-native speakers of English: IELTS 6.5 overall, 6.5 in writing.
  • Degree and/or experience: Successful completion of either the Postgraduate Diploma in Person-centred Counselling or Psychodynamic Counselling (ie obtaining 120 masters-level credits in professional counselling training). An interview with two members of staff. Successful completion of the Research Methods modules (SSM03) during the postgraduate diploma or equivalent postgraduate research methods training. Evidence of a commitment to pursuing counselling as a discreet activity. Active caseload acquired within an approved clinical placement.
