Course Objectives:
- Establishment of an innovative, interdisciplinary English-language Elite study programme that integrates theories and approaches of Cognitive Psychology and the Cognitive Neurosciences into 'Neuro-cognitive Psychology'.
- Provision of a research-oriented education in state-of-the-art methods and theories of neuro-cognitive psychology (experimental procedures for the measurement and imaging of neuro-cognitive functions and their disorders, neuro-cognitive modelling and theory formation).
- Integration of basic-science methods and concepts with applied issues in Neuro-cognitive Ergonomics (especially complex human-machine interaction) and Diagnostics (especially assessment of normal neuro-cognitive functions and their disorders in subjects with brain dysfunction).
- Teaching network spanning Bavarian, German, and international partner institutions (for example linked laboratory courses at the universities of Munich, Regensburg, and Würzburg; at the Forschungszentrum Jülich; research internships at European partner universities; international guest lecturers).
- Direct involvement in the courses offered by top international scientists, including guest lecturers, in the various (cognitive-neuroscience) disciplines.
- Intensive personal tuition of the students in a mentoring system.
The aim of the four-semester Elite study programme 'M Sc in Neuro-cognitive Psychology' (NCP), funded by the Elite Network of the Bavarian Ministry of Sciences, Research and the Arts, is to train a select group of about 20 students each year (recruited world-wide) in both methodological and conceptual topics in this neuroscience-oriented discipline of psychology, and to provide an education that is competitive with the best international programmes.
