Since the nineteenth century the Divinity Faculty has expanded to include the teaching of all the major world religions and their relationships with the societies in which they flourish or are repressed. The importance of this to people's everyday lives has been acknowledged very practically in the last seven years by the funds committed by individuals and trusts to enable the Faculty to construct the first purpose-built Theology Faculty in Britain for over a century. Opened in 2001, this stunning award-winning building is a sign of the strength and liveliness of this subject in Cambridge - and very popular.
Key research areas:
The Centre for Advanced Religious and Theological Studies (CARTS) opened in 1995 as the focus for major developments in the Faculty's research into the living religious traditions. CARTS is making its mark internationally as a base for research projects, conferences and publications.
