The Animal Health Trust (AHT) is a specialist multidisciplinary research institute, with a remit in understanding diseases in animals through scientific endeavour and its application to their welfare. The AHT provides a unique environment for postgraduate students to appreciate first-hand how their research work is placed in the field of veterinary medicine.
They specialise in the study of disease in the target species through epidemiological, clinical and experimental programmes. Their teams include experts in a number of core disciplines, including epidemiology, genetics, immunology and pathology, that are essential for their understanding of disease at the herd, whole animal, cellular and molecular levels.
While the AHT is primarily an applied research institute with the remit to address diseases of importance to companion animals, there is increasing demand and scope to answer basic biological questions within the research programmes, and both fundamental and applied research is undertaken in their core disciplines.
