Their research encompasses the development and function of the immune system in health and disease, aspects of molecular cell biology, bacterial genomics, antibiotic resistance and viral susceptibility.

They are hosts for the MRC Centre for Immune Regulation, which provides an interactive environment encompassing a number of internationally recognised research groups, and attracts programme grant level support from the MRC, Wellcome Trust and ARC. The centre provides core support and access to state-of-the-art facilities including flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, and real-time PCR. Members of staff are also associated with the JIF-funded Institute for Biomedical Research, which provides facilities for proteomics and genomics, together with containment facilities up to Category 3 work with micro-organisms.

They have an active postgraduate training programme. They run an MSc in Immunology and an MPhil in Cellular and Molecular Immunology and Oncology. There are also PhD opportunities covering the research interests of the division. All postgraduate students are provided with training in generic skills, together with progress monitoring and support.
