The ISS-curriculum deals with the functioning and development of contemporary societies. It focuses on four general themes: the comparative performance of different modes of social, political and economic organisation; the globalisation of markets and the de-nationalisation of governance; the increasing role of mass media in shaping people's minds; pervasive value change among populations and its consequences for democratic governance. Each of these themes is addressed in a separate module which combines insights from sociology, political science, economics, and mass communication.
