The overall purpose of the programme is to produce professionally competent, reflective and analytical social work practitioners who are able to practice in a variety of settings, with a range of service users, in accordance with National Occupational Standards and expectations identified in the Code of Practice for social care workers. The programme is designed for postgraduates who wish to become registered social work practitioners and provides the flexibility for you to choose a special area of interest in the second year (children and families, adults and community care or mental health).
The programme provides a professional qualification in social work, which allows students to take up challenging and stimulating posts in a wide variety of fields, such as mental health, childcare and child protection, learning and physical disabilities.
After obtaining academic qualification, students may register with the GSCC as competent to practice. Social workers are key members of multi-disciplinary teams in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors working with a wide range of service user groups.
Academic entry qualification overview: A minimum Lower Second class Honours degree. Students must also have GCSE Mathematics and GCSE English grade C or above or equivalent. Relevant work experience in a voluntary or employed capacity is also required for entry to this programme.
English language: Students whose first language is not English are required a hold IELTS 6.5, with a score of 6.0 or above in each component, TOEFL 600 paper-based or 250 computer-based, GCSE English grade C or evidence of equivalent learning.
