Course Description

At the heart of the discipline of population sciences (or 'demography') are three key components of human populations: births, deaths and migration.

As population science draws on several scientific disciplines, you are encouraged to take modules in related subjects of special interest to them. In all three years of the degree, flexibility exists for you to take non-population modules, usually taught by other Schools. Around one-quarter of your degree can consist of such modules. With guidance from your academic tutor and fellow students, you can choose modules from the hundreds taught throughout the University. You may decide to concentrate your outside options in one subject area, such as Geography, Sociology or languages, or try out a variety of different subjects.

Units incorporate lectures, seminars, tutorials and computer workshops, as well as self-directed reading and study. In year three you will undertake a detailed project of your choice and complete a dissertation.
