About the programme

The Research Master’s degree in Public Administration and Organizational Science is offered by the Utrecht University / School of Governance (USG) in collaboration with the Tilburg School of Politics and Public Administration (TSPPA) and the Department of Public Administration of Erasmus University in Rotterdam. These institutions belong to the best Public

Administration and Organizational Science research groups in the Netherlands.
This Program focuses on the new challenges that public governments at all levels face. These challenges flow from long-term trends such as Europeanization, globalization, changing information and communication technologies, issues related to migration and individualization, and increasing cultural pluralization. Solid research is needed to understand and deal with these social transformations.

Career Opportunities

This Master’s Program prepares you for a range of careers in which theoretically informed analysis and critical assessment of research findings are essential requirements. This may be a career in Public Administration and Organization Science research, beginning with PhD research. It may be a career as researcher with a research institute or international think tank, a professional organization or government institution. Many of our students become policy advisors or public management consultants.

Entrance Requirements

Candidates for the Research Master’s program should hold either:

• a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from a Dutch university
• a national or University College Utrecht (UCU) Bachelor’s Degree in one of the related disciplines: General Social Sciences, Business Administration, Policy Studies, Communication, Cultural Anthropology, Organization Science, Human Resource Management, Social Sciences, Sociology, Political Science
• an international Bachelor’s Degree in one of the above-mentioned disciplines;
• a one-year (inter)national Master’s degree in one of the above-mentioned disciplines.

Proficiency in English

• IELTS: 6.5 (all components together) with a minimum of 6.0 for the writing section.
• TOEFL: 237 for the computer test, 93 for the internet test.
