Thematic Fields

Grounded in a focused social science curriculum and a joint research programme, GSSS students can complete their dissertations in three years. Research and teaching in the GSSS are anchored in its research programme, built around three thematic fields. These thematic fields are studied through international and historical comparison.

The thematic fields are:

• transnational relations and political theory
• the modern welfare state
• social change and the life course

While a specialised curriculum is dedicated to each of these research fields and fellows should demonstrate special interest in one of the three focus areas, the GSSS encourages its doctoral students to be curious about the research carried out in all thematic fields and to let their own work be challenged by an interdisciplinary community of scholars.
