Course details
This course is one of only a small number available in the UK that offers you both a foundation in equine science and a grounding in the practical skills required by the industry. You will develop your understanding of the breeding, training and care of horses whilst building practical skills in stable management and equitation.
Career and progression opportunities
The course prepares students for careers including: yard management, breeding and stud farm management, competition grooming, instructing riding, equine sports coaching, employment in the racing industry, equine rehabilitation and therapy, equine events organisation and management and marketing of equine products and services. Foundation degree holders can continue their studies for a further 12 or 24 months, depending on grades achieved, on the Equine Sports Performance honours degree.
Entry requirements
- UCAS tariff: 120 points, from a minimum of one 6-unit qualification. Level 3 Key Skills will count towards the tariff score. Excluding General Studies.
- International Baccalaureate: 24 points, certificates considered.
- QAA-approved access course: acceptable.
- GCSE (minimum grade C): at least 3 subjects including English language and mathematics or a science.
- Foundation degree/HND/HNC individual assessment. Depending on academic achievements, applicants may be accredited with full module credits for up to 50 per cent of modules.
- For non-native speakers of English: IELTS 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing.
