Film and Philosophy: University of Southampton

Course overview

This programme builds on Southampton's strength in both areas, benefiting in particular from the interest in aesthetics and philosophy of film within the Philosophy Department. Students take units in each subject on an equal basis, and can either choose courses which complement each other or elect to pursue a diverse range of interests. A final-year dissertation may be submitted in either of the two subjects.

This combined degree builds on research and teaching strengths in both areas, producing a successful and challenging course combination that benefits in particular from film’s interest in aesthetics and philosophy.
